Aggressive settlers made a grab for a Palestinian home and unknown Jewish attackers stabbed two Palestinians in the Old City on Friday as tension in Jerusalem increases.

In the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Safafa, orthodox Israeli settlers attacked a family in a bid to take over their home in the Palestinian community. At least one of the six settlers, reportedly in their 50s, was armed with a gun, and fired on the family members. Palestinian sources said five were injured in the incident, while Israeli sources differed saying between one and four were injured.

Israeli daily newspaper the Jerusalem Post said the extremists drove into the Palestinain neighborhood and presented locals with an eviction order. According to the Israeli news source Ynet, “The Jews fled the scene after the shooting, and were later found and detained.”

At the main entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City, Damascus Gate, two Palestinians were attacked by unknown assailants. Both suffered knife wounds, and one is in serious condition. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Palestinian sources said the attackers were Jewish, while Israeli sources said the identity of the attackers was unknown.
