Abu Marzouk: Presence of Shalit in Gaza doesn’t avert another Israeli war on it

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Dr. Mousa Abu Marzouk, the deputy-head of Hamas's political bureau, asserted Wednesday that the presence of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in Gaza Strip won't avert another war with the Zionist entity, citing the Israeli war on Gaza last year.

In an interview with the German News Agency (DBA), Abu Marzouk underlined that the Zionist entity is to blame for aborting the prisoners' swap deal because [Israeli premier] Benjamin Netanyahu reneged on what had been agreed upon, adding that the German mediator knows this fact very well.

When asked about the Palestinian reconciliation, Abu Marzouk underscored that Hamas would sign the Egyptian paper once Egypt accept to take the Movement's reservations on the paper into consideration.

Hamas insisted that there were a number of points agreed upon by Hamas and Fatah leaders but weren’t included in the Egyptian paper, which, according to Hamas, included some points that weren’t discussed at all between the two factions.

However, Abu Marzouk highlighted the need to differentiate between Hamas's official stand towards Egypt and some statements issued by Hamas leaders to express the Movement's opinion regarding some events that appear to be against Egypt.

"When a Hamas member is arrested and tortured to death by the Egyptian police, do you want us say thank you to Egypt, should we not say that this is an unacceptable behavior?," the Hamas's official explained.

MP Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya, member of Hamas' political bureau, seconded Abu Marzouk's remarks regarding the reconciliation, stressing that Hamas was and still is keen to achieve genuine harmony in the Palestinian political arena.

He stressed that Hamas wasn’t given the chance to implement its reform programs as a ruling party, stressing that detractors of Hamas attempted to push the Movement into the corner and to besiege it in order to portray it as if it failed in its election program.

Nevertheless, Hayya said, Hamas proved that it was up to the Palestinian people aspirations after the big achievements it had made in the Palestinian arena, including restoring law and order to Gaza Strip among other achievements despite the crippling economic siege imposed by the international community and the Arab world on it.
