Prisoners committee: Extending Issawi detention vengeful decision

GAZA, (PIC)-- The higher national committee for prisoners has charged that the Israeli occupation authority's (IOA) continued detention of Palestinian female lawyer Shirin Issawi was a vengeful step.

The committee in a press release on Wednesday said that Issawi, 29, was known for her active defense of Palestinian prisoners in IOA jails and is a member of the international movement for the defense of children that follows up cases of minors. She is also known for following up the cases of Jordanian prisoners and those serving high sentences.

It said that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) detained the lawyer at a roadblock after returning from work then stormed her home in Issawiye, occupied Jerusalem, searched her room and confiscated her personal computer and official papers and mobile phones. The IOF charged the lawyer with extending services to "terrorist organizations".

The committee said that the Israeli intelligence could not prove the charge or force her to confess but was still refusing to let her go, describing the extension of her detention as a "vengeful step" because of the lawyer's role in serving prisoners and catering for their cases.

The committee asked human rights groups to intervene to bridle the IOA revenge and punishment against Issawi and to release her immediately because her arrest was without any legal justification.
