Gov't: The Palestinian arena is facing threats and attacks from Israel and PA

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Palestinian government said the Palestinian arena is facing two kinds of challenges, the first is the Israeli threats against the Gaza Strip and the second is the daily attacks and the smear campaign waged against Hamas cadres and supporters by Fatah security militias in the West Bank.

In a news conference on Wednesday, spokesman for the government Taher Al-Nunu affirmed that premier Ismail Haneyya would contact many parties around the world to explain Israel's aggressive intents against Gaza.

Spokesman Nunu added that the government also would file a complaint in this regard with the UN and would send similar messages to the human rights council and all parties concerned.

The spokesman stressed that the recent Israeli military actions against Gaza were associated with hostile remarks made by Israeli officials and the Fatah-controlled Palestinian authority (PA) in the West Bank.

He considered that the concurrent relation between the Israeli campaign of incitement against Gaza and what the PA is doing in the West Bank vindicated further what was revealed by Wikileaks about the mutual roles played by Israel and the PA before, during and after the last war on Gaza people.

The spokesman asserted that the number of political detainees in PA jails has amounted to about 3,033, noting that the PA militias kidnapped academics, elected members and heads of municipal councils, businessmen, civilians and university students, including all the students who were nominated to the student council.

The spokesman said that the PA security institutions attack Palestinian lawmakers, harass their families and acquaintances, arrest women and hold military trials against journalists and civilians, adding that all these violations should prompt human rights organizations to act to stop these flagrant violations.

Nunu also pointed out that the PA files indictments similar to those filed by Israel and the former deducts the detention term of prisoners from the period they spend in PA jails and vise versa, which means that the Israeli occupation and the PA are one body.

He urged the media outlets to disclose the serious crimes happening in the West Bank and not fear the punitive measures that the PA could take against them.

For its part, Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, declared its readiness to repel any Israeli aggression against Gaza, stressing that the escalating military attacks indicate that Israel wants to create a crisis in Gaza and to wage another brutal war.

"We say all these attempts will not serve the occupation and will not make the resistance and the Palestinian people confused. These attempts will fail and the Palestinian resistance will state its position towards the occupation in case these crimes and attacks escalate," Abu Obeida, the spokesman for Al-Qassam Brigades, told the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Wednesday.

Commenting on the modern weapons which Israel claimed that the Palestinian resistance in Gaza may possess, the spokesman affirmed that what was said in this regard by Israeli officials was incitement propaganda against Gaza people.

"We cannot say what the resistance has because of the nature of our confrontation with the enemy, but I confirm that the enemy is trying to amplify the resistance's capabilities in order to justify any aggression," he highlighted.

"We have the right to acquire the means, even though what we have, if compared to what the occupation owns, is weak," the spokesman added.
