RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The Islamic Jihad movement described the speech of US president Barak Obama on Thursday as “exhibitionist and a renewed attempt to market illusions.”

Daud Shehab, spokesman for the movement said in a press statement on Friday that “the Arab and Islamic region harvested bitter fruits over long years because of the dependence on US policies and today the Palestinian people and the masses of our Umma (nation) are unanimous on freeing itself from counting on the US.”

He pointed out that “The change which Obama is talking about today has come about as a result of the people’s will and awakening which took Obama and his administration by surprise. The change targeted regimes which Obama supported [..] and today he is trying to tell us that he participated in the fall of those regimes.”

Shehab stressed his distrust of the US administration and warned against falling for “the sweet talk and promises that we heard on numerous occasions.”

He further said that “the US which has failed to protect the thrones of its allies from masses seeking freedom and deliverance from subjugation will fail to protect the occupying entity the presence of which in Palestine is wrong.”

DAMASCUS, (PIC) Hamas criticised what US president Barak Obama had to say with regard to the Palestine issue during his speech on Thursday and described it as “blatantly biased in favour of the Zionist occupation at the expense of Palestinian national rights.”

The movement said in a written statement on Friday that Obama’s speech was a reinforcement of double standards politics when “he talked about people’s right to freedom and dignity but ignored Palestinian rights and at the same time stressed his commitment to security of the Zionist entity as a ‘Jewish state’ which encourages the occupation to commit more crimes against the Palestinian people and reinforces Israeli ethnic cleansing policies in the 1948-occupied Palestinian lands.”

The movement added that Obama’s speech had nothing new regarding the Palestine issue, but a mere emphasis on the US classic stand which is biased to occupation which only “reinforces the credibility of the movement’s position which stressed on numerous occasions the absurdity of negotiations with the occupation and the illusion of counting on Washington.”

Hamas further stressed on the importance of the national reconciliation which was achieved lately, putting the Palestinian house in order and expediting the implementation of the agreement in order to unite the Palestinian people in the face of the challenges and the Zionist arrogance on the basis of the Palestinian national constants and the right of Palestinians to resist the occupation in any form.
